Rehabilitation Counseling
Rehabilitation counselors help individuals of all abilities achieve personal, social and professional goals leading to a more fulfilling life. Rehabilitation counseling is a profession that holistically applies counseling skills to assist individuals with a broad range of mental and physical disabilities to achieve their maximum level of independence, integration, and participation in the community and the world of work in accordance with each individual’s personal goals, career aspirations, and perception of quality of life.
Specialized Counseling for Disability and Independence
While many types of counseling degrees exist, rehabilitation counseling is specifically designed to serve individuals with disabilities, understanding the medical and psychosocial elements of disabilities within cultural contexts. This form of counseling is goal-oriented, aiming to help people with physical, mental, developmental, cognitive, and emotional disabilities achieve self-determination, independence, meaningful employment, and full community participation. As a Rehabilitation Counseling specialist, I have institutional experience with the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. I am available for professional consultation with state and social service and educational professionals or others who want information about services, resources or case recommendations.
Bridging Mental Health and Vocational Progress
As an independent Mental Health Counselor with a Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling background, I am specially able to support clients being served by state rehabilitation services. I can provide services that will address the mental health issues that may be providing a barrier to progress and also support continued vocational progress.
My collegue, Brian Jaeger, https://brianjjaeger.com/, and I have established a Rehabilitation Counseling Collective in order to make our services more available with minimal wait time.Â
